The ROSCA Network

Introducing

The ROSCA Network is an initiative run by The Banker Ladies Council, who advocate for women who organize cooperative banks in the community. “ROSCA” stands for Rotating Savings & Credit Association.

Goals

The project's goal was to develop a unique but simple logo that carried afro-centric symbolism. The client wanted the logo to evoke a sense of teamwork, support, and community.

Timeline

The project was completed within 3 weeks, encompassing initial discussions, the design phase, the final presentation, and bundling up the final suite of logos for the client.

Challenges

The main challenge of this project was integrating the Adinkra symbols, which are traditional African symbols. Using these symbols appropriately presented a unique hurdle to this project.

Process

Discussion and Ideation:

We initiated the project with an in-depth questionnaire to align with the ROSCA Network’s goals and vision. Following the questionnaire, I developed a simple mood board that would guide the rest of the project.

Digital Work:

For the digital design phase, I based the two logo options on various Adrinkra symbols as they tied directly to the client’s vision of an afro-centric logo that embraced a supportive and positive community. Using the letter R, I was able to integrate more symbols into the design.

Mock-ups and Presentation:

In the final stage, I created realistic mock-ups and crafted an in-depth presentation that would clearly illustrate the deep meaning within each logo option. The client chose the first logo, which was then packaged up for the client to use in their digital and print work.
